This can reduce frustration for weaker students and extend high achievers without demanding constant one-to-one attention from teachers. AI can also automate routine marking and generate instant feedback, freeing staff to focus on discussion, creativity and pastoral care. In this view, AI is not replacing teachers but amplifying their impact, particularly in large classes with diverse needs.

Critics warn that AI tools may deepen existing educational gaps. Systems trained on incomplete or biased data can misjudge ability, steering some learners into easier content and lowering expectations. Schools with limited budgets may adopt cheap automated tutoring while wealthier institutions keep small-group teaching, creating a two-tier model. There are also concerns about surveillance: constant data collection can pressure students and reduce learning to measurable clicks. Finally, overreliance on algorithmic feedback may weaken critical thinking if learners accept machine answers as authoritative rather than debatable.
